Overview of GeM Registration
Before any business can participate in government tenders or sell goods and services to government buyers, it must be officially onboarded as an authorized seller on the Government e-Marketplace (GeM).
Registration on GeM is a multi-stage authentication process that links your corporate tax identity (PAN and GSTIN) with the personal credentials of the authorized primary user (Aadhaar or PAN) and an organizational Class 3 Digital Signature Certificate.
Who Can Register on GeM?
GeM accommodates all legally recognized commercial business constitutions in India:
| Entity Type | Authorised Primary User | Key Prerequisite Documents |
|---|---|---|
| Proprietorship | Proprietor | Proprietor PAN, Aadhaar, GSTIN, Bank Details |
| Partnership / LLP | Managing Partner / Designated Partner | Entity PAN, Partnership Deed / LLP Agreement, Class 3 DSC |
| Private & Public Ltd Company | Director or Key Managerial Personnel | CIN, MOA/AOA, Board Resolution, Class 3 DSC |
| Trust / Society / PSU | Authorized Trustee / Secretary / Officer | Registration Certificate, Authorization Letter, PAN |
Step-by-Step Registration Workflow
- Primary Account Generation: Validating the authorized user's Aadhaar or personal PAN via automated UIDAI/CBDT OTP gateway.
- Business Identity Verification: Linking the entity's corporate PAN and verified GSTIN credentials to verify operational history.
- Bank Account Mandate: Verifying the company bank account through automated penny-drop verification or cancelled cheque verification.
- Digital Signature Token Registration: Associating the authorized signatory's Class 3 DSC token with the GeM user profile.
- Caution Money Deposit: Depositing the required statutory caution money via the GeM electronic nodal account based on the vendor's annual turnover slab.
- Secondary User Account Delegation: Creating secondary user accounts for sales, billing, and bidding personnel with customizable access privileges.
